Personifying many high-spending IAP players everywhere, Baron Whale is a highly useful Shield card offering pretty good protection against enemy attacks.
Much like Dryad or Ham Han, Baron Whale takes some time to come into his own, but once he hits SLv6, his Damage Reduction Shield can spread to the Party on a Straight+.
The Shield itself offers substantial damage reduction (50% @ SLv7) and lasts for 3 ticks; useful for multiple attacks.
With Awakening, Whale becomes more on-par with the other Shield cards that had supposedly passed him by like Mun Mun, Clover, and Cherub. Apart from the usual Stat Boost and Cost increase, Whale doesn't see many drastic changes. His Shield is thankfully inherently AoE now and also has a chance to apply a DEF buff to the Party on a Straight+. He also gains a useful Awakening Skill that has a chance to buff the Party's DEF as well.
That said, Whale is still very much useful if you have him.
SLv1-5: Chance to apply Damage Reduction Shield that reduces damage from the next 3 attacks.
SLv6+: Chance to apply Damage Reduction Shield that reduces damage from the next 3 attacks. (On Straight+, chance to apply Shield to the entire Party)
Whale get a few improvements on his Main Skill. Now his Shield is naturally AoE and if you manage a Straight+, then the Party's DEF is increased (fairly similar to Gigas and Forest Lord). Despite similar Shield cards being around (Cherub being a big one), Whale does manage to have an advantage in having a high chance to apply his Shield.
A somewhat weak sub skill, it offers 10% Damage Reduction against Fire-type enemies if subbed on the Ace card.
Very situational use and there are much better Ace subs out there.
Basically the same as before, only now Baron Whale offers 15% Damage Reduction against Fire enemies. Unless you're facing Fire enemies, Whale is basically useless as a sub. Otherwise, he's a good Damage Reduction card, though other and better options exist.
