Dragoons of Annihilation
Punching his way into a fairly competitive color and skill icon type, Wald is a solid if somewhat...interesting card. With an interesting stat spread and honestly lackluster status effect, Wald seems to falter off at first, especially with a monster like Thor as his competition- However, he holds up fairly well due to an excellent and importantly, constant output of damage and a workable subskill.
The only issue with Wald's basic statistics is that at the cost of his massive attack and defense, his HP absolutely suffers. An almost solid 2000 (Man, that'd make some even numbers), Wald has a HP value comparable to support cards. However, this is also technically a benefit as it gives him a strong attack stat, and while his subskill is thoroughly mediocre as Dragon enemies are even in PVE, very rare and damage weak- It is still 20% without dragon types around, and comes with SS level and skill icon, making it solid (even if honestly, chances are you'd rather have wald as a main).
However, regardless of how good his poison rate may be- Poison was a bad roll for his status, as it's strongly PVE only (You'll remove it to apply death in PVP instead) and there are currently only -2- poison weak event bosses, yes, as far as we can tell even his own whalebait boss isn't weak to poison. Still, there are few cards that apply it and it has the bonus of enabling vermouth to wreck shit, so if there ever comes the dream blue weak boss, Wald is prepared.
In terms of his competition, Wald is basically a more consistent alternative to Thor- boosted closer to thor's range at three hits by his higher damage. Both are acceptable choices, as well as Gorrilla.
Overall, Wald is a mediocreish if still solidly valuable card.
- Poison damage increases as you or your target's HP decreases.
Overall, Wald's skill should be treated as a base three-hit, even if the Poison rate might be substantial it seems unlikely to ever land due to the fact Wald will straight up murder your target in Colosseum, and PVE poison weak bosses are rare. In this regard, coming off of Wald's base stats, Wald stands up very well with some of the higher numbers in the game. Again, unlike Thor, his damage is also consistent- which is a nice alternative sometimes.
However, what really makes Wald shine is when you go up against enemies weak to Poison. Much like Hydra, Wald can inflict massive damage against the rare foes who are actually weak to Poison. With enough Skill Boosts and a Power-Up Enhance, Wald's Poison can inflict absurd damage under the right circumstances. But as noted in his Skill's secondary effect, Wald's Poison also becomes more potent as your or the target's HP drops. Barring having a Hydra, Wald's a good card to have around to inflict Poison with.
Having high numbers- Wald's subskill is ultimately not very good due to how damage is less efficient a subskill modifier opposed to skill efficacy. The fact the 35% is not achievable without a dragon-type target also hurts a lot, but ultimately the skill is salvaged due to the fact it belongs to an SS card, as wald's levels and skill icon boasts a lot of stats, and the damage is still atleast achievable with a non-dragon target.
Mostly, a lack of anything better and you have more walds than you can field.
