Duran is an interesting Event Card. He can be pretty good as a Main Card for newer players thanks to a surprising stat distribution and a decent Main Skill early on. Duran's Main Skill is pretty simple: attempt to apply Iron Wall to the Party. But unfortunately, the chances are pretty iffy, only going from a measly 40% to 60% as you level it up. As such, Duran loses his luster pretty quickly once you get better Shield cards. The S cards from his Event can add various effects to his Main Skill, but they're nothing too special.
What probably really makes Duran stick out is his Sub Skill and how he works in conjunction with the various Sub Equipment cards from his event (detailed further down). By default, Duran offers up a unconditional 15% Skill Boost with a 5% chance to resist Status Effects. This means he works pretty well as a sub on Support cards mostly. Stat-wise, Duran has a very interesting distribution. He's got tons of HP (very atypical of most DRA cards), rivaling that of most GOD-rarity cards. Of course, to compensate, his Attack is insanely low while his Defense is pretty below average.
Overall, you're probably just going to be using Duran as a Sub Card with his various Subs, as they are quite useful.
|IRON WALL CHANCE||40%||45%||50%||55%||60%|
- Iron Wall only has one tick.
|Iron Wall Chance||60%||70%||80%|
- Iron Wall only has one tick.
- Grants +1 DEF to the Party on Skill Activation.
- When your DEF is +5, grants +1 to all Stats.
Awakening improves Duran's Skill, putting him on par with most GOD-rarity Shield Cards. The Iron Wall remains the same as before, but with a higher chance to apply and now you also get a DEF Buff with it. And should your DEF hit +5, you also get +1 to all Stats. That said, Iron Wall isn't always the most preferred Shield of choice and a few cards do perform better as far as applying it (Gigas, Karakasa-obake, etc.). Still, Duran's considerably better than before. (Not to mention his whopping 3905 HP!)
Completely unconditional 15% Skill Efficiency boost and a nice 5% chance to resist Status Effects.
That said, Duran would make a pretty good sub for Support cards.
Of course, the real kicker here is that Duran can be combined with cards from his event to add additional effects to the equipped Main Card.
- Phaser Gun: 10/15/20% Skill Boost when equipped on the same card as Duran.
- Hadron Pod: On Skill Activation, Heal 3/4/5% HP and have a 30/40/50% chance of reducing the next instance of damage by 30% when equipped on the same card as Duran.
- Dark Matter: 2/3/3% Damage Reduction when equipped on same card as Duran. (The SSS version has the additional effect of no longer linking with Enhance skills if it is equipped together w/ one of the other SS subs).
The most important of these is the Dark Matter, which at SSS, has the special property of no longer linking with Enhance cards if you have it attached with another SS Equipment Sub listed above (For example, Duran + Dark Matter (SSS) + Phaser Gun/Hadron Pod). As such, it can be put to good use on cards that you don't want being linked (or stealing links for that matter).
If you're new and haven't got to play the previous Events, you can get the Subs via the Monarch Awakening Challenge Dungeon when it comes around.
Awakening doesn't change much for Duran. The Skill Boost is now 15-20% and if you happen to have one his Special Subs equipped, you get a 3% HP Heal.
A minor improvement overall, more so for any Support Cards that affect the Party.
Duran's design appears to be a parody of various Cosmic/Space-based villains.
